Lee, 1973
Still clouds in a blue sky
moving trees become a metaphor
the poetry inside the book
eclipsed by her handwriting
upper-right-inside-front-cover
Lee, 1973
did she leaf through backwards
and at random, as I tend to,
begging Adrienne Rich
for inspiration, reading poems
somewhere in Africa
in some big empty house
on some wide windy plain
or was she in Iowa by then
daunted by our grocery stores
beginning a new life
with a husband she didn’t love…
when I visit her now
she remembers nothing
but we can still look up together
and she can still tell me
about clouds.
